Seabird Band: Bios

The Band

What do you get when you take four old friends that have known each other for years and put them back together in the studio for the first time in a good while?

You get tear-soaked laughter from rehashing war stories.

You get a certain kind of magic that is
well traveled, seasoned and soulful

And you get music.
Deeply original, well played, honest American music from four sets of influences and diverse stylistic interpretations blending into a sum greater than its parts.

You get
THE SEABIRD BAND

As they are for the new millenum.

New songs uploaded to this website hot off the mixing board in an on-going labor of love.

It's going to take some time.

Join us and stay tuned.

Welcome to the Project.

Guy - The Bio of Guy-o

Guy Burlage (born June 29 in Norfolk, Virginia) is an American singer songwriter and guitarist, based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His music is a blend of country rock, folk rock, and the "Virginia sound" made popular by Bruce Hornsby (a friend and fan of the Seabird Band) starting in the mid-1980s.
Guy spent the early years, back in the 60's, in "The Times" with brother Denis playing rock-psychedelic music. They played at teen clubs, private parties and country clubs. They were also regulars on television for a local dance show. The band became KIVA and JUBAL before adopting SEABIRD (so guy is really the only "original" memeber)
In 1978, he produced and played guitar and steel guitar on the Waylon Records-issued self-titled debut album of the Seabird Band from the Tidewater region of Virginia. The album was well received by national radio, and was a "Hot Pick" by Billboard magazine
Guy's CD Just Like Gold was released by Waylon Records in 1991.
Guy also records and performs in Vermont as a solo as well as steady performances at Kings Mill in Virginia through the summer.
He has played on countless recordings as well as toured with many national recording acts.

Wayne - The Real Deal

Wayne Canney is a working musician. This is his only job, and if you get the chance to see him you will know why.
His musical journey started at Marquette University playing with (oh yeah!) Pop Popavitch and The Idaho Potatoes! When he came back to Vermont he played with several local bands, Tiger Rose, Virginia Circle and Almost Home to name a few.
He Joined Seabird with Jerry & Mark in 1980 shortly after the First SEABIRD album had been released.
Wayne is possibly the best "unknown" songwriter in these parts, he put out an album in 1979 under the name of "Wayne Canney & Tiger Rose". In addition, he has a substantial catalog of original music that has yet to be recorded.
Wayne spends a great deal of his time playing solo...he is in such demand, that he averages 5-6 days a week and somtimes as many as 3 performances a day! Busy boy.
He resides in Proctor VT with his fiance Jen and he has 2 boys Chas & Sam

Jerry - Truth be Told

It is an amazing musical journey for Mr. D... after leaving VT and Seabird he moved to
Nashville for 10 yrs or so. This brought him close to many greats and near greats as a sideman as well as touring with Jeannie C. Riley (Harper Valley PTA-OH Yeah!) for quite some time. He played for a while with the great Warren Haines (Allman Bros. -Govt Mule)
He moved to New Orleans where he played with several great cajun musicians and frequently on Bourbon street as well as honing his writing skills - he eventually moved back to Vermont where he continues to write and play with several local acts

Mark - kram yeltnuh

Obsessed with the skins by the ripe old age of 5. i destroyed all the plastic garbage cans in the house by turning them upside down and banging on them with pencils. played in several garage bands, but never got serious until 17 or so and formed Tiger Rose in Rutland VT, a good little band.
That lead to Seabird. We had some fun! I would like to tell you all the really good stuff...you know...the "dirt", but that is a book yet to be writtten.
Seabird morphed intoThe Spiders (a completely snarky band and our alter ego) then moved to Burington VT to try top 40 show bands, make up, white hair with red streaks, dangly earrings..help, i'm in the 80's!
moved to NYC got together with a friend from VT. We started a garage band in Montclair, NJ called "The October Project" ...
I left, and wouldn't you know it, they almost got a gold or bronze , some kind of metal record...(look em up, they don't suk)
Turned Financial Advisor in CA -moved back to NYC and then back to Vermont - got to play with a lot of very talented people and had some great gigs. It is great to be back playing music with my brothers...
I live in Cavendish Vt with my wife Sharon and the two koolest people i know, my son Spencer and my Daughter Madison...I am blessed ... i like al kee haul
